All In with UAW Autoworkers Explainer – August(1)
Hello AFT Family,
Have you heard that UAW members are striking to demand that every job in the transition to electric vehicles is a good job? The Big 3 automakers—which are posting record profits—refuse to share those profits with their workers and seek to use this historic moment to degrade working conditions for the working class. Auto workers are fighting back against corporate greed and demanding that workers be at the center of a just transition to a green economy. Part of being a social justice union, like AFT Guild 1931, is working in solidarity with unions who share our goals, and this is one of those times! (Don’t forget that UAW represents the UC grad students who mobilized for big wins recently too.)
Two actions you can take:
1) Below is a link to a solidarity pledge that you can just open and sign:
UAW Solidarity Pledge
2) Record a 20-60 second video on why you support UAW members in their fight to ensure a just transition and good EV jobs and post it today. You can use the talking points attached as a guide and post your videos or statements to Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, or TikTok and tag the posts #UAW and #recordprofitsmeanrecordcontracts and tag @aftguild1931 and @aft1931interns. If you don’t want to use your personal social media account, just send your video along to erin evans at eevans@sdccd.edu and your video will be posted in Instagram by @aft1931interns .
In solidarity,
