New San Diego Water Rates Charge Residents More per Gallon than Businesses
A CPI analysis of the new water rates proposed by San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders shows the average single-family household will pay 30% more per gallon of water than the average business. CPI researchers presented their data before the City Council approved the rate increases Monday, forcing city staff to acknowledge that residential water rates will rise about 11%, much more than the increase for businesses.
As CPI representatives explained in a KPBS broadcast, this imbalance puts a burden on families struggling to make ends meet. While rate increases are needed to pay for water and sewer system repairs, local businesses and industries should pay their fair share for this vital city service!
