“Police Repression, Police Unions, and the Role of the Labor Movement.”

This is a special meeting of the Labor Democratic club, but Bill’s presentation is in cooperation with our union, the Coalition of Black Trade Unionists, and the San Diego and Imperial Counties Labor Council.

After this presentation we will be considering a resolution dealing with the presence of police unions in our labor organizations both locally and nationally.  You are more than welcome to listen in to this discussion.  However, if you want to participate (ask questions/make comments) you will have to join the San Diego Labor Democratic Club.  The cost is $10.00 for a year and can be done here:

Bill Fletcher, Jr Biography:

Bill is the former president of TransAfrica Forum; a Senior Scholar with the Institute for Policy Studies; an editorial board member of; and in the leadership of several other projects. Fletcher is the co-author (with Peter Agard) of “The Indispensable Ally: Black Workers and the Formation of the Congress of Industrial Organizations, 1934-1941”; the co-author (with Dr. Fernando Gapasin) of “Solidarity Divided: The crisis in organized labor and a new path toward social justice“; and the author of “‘They’re Bankrupting Us’ – And Twenty other myths about unions.” Fletcher is a syndicated columnist and a regular media commentator.

Bill is one of this country’s most articulate and committed activists for Black liberation, social justice, and labor union rights. The basis of his talk is a recent article he wrote which can be found here:
