Gathering in community in times like these matters more than ever.
We invite you to join us for a special screening of the HBO documentary Critical Incident: Death at the Border on Thursday, March 5. We will host two screenings, 2:30pm and 6pm, at San Diego City College. The 6pm screening will include Spanish subtitles.
This documentary is the first ever feature-length film examining corruption within the nation’s largest law enforcement agency: U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Told through the story of Anastasio Hernandez Rojas, this powerful film confronts the consequences of unchecked police power in the United States. It centers the human cost borne by a family who lost a husband, father, brother, and son and reveals the devastating impact of a system that too often operates without accountability. What unfolds is not only a story of one life taken, but of a national cover-up that challenges us to reckon with what justice, dignity, and protection truly mean, especially now.
This is a story of resilience, and the passion and perseverance of a family and community to tell their story and be heard. Now more than ever, we lift each other.
As we continue our collective work for human rights and transparency, this screening offers a safe space for community members to reflect, to learn, and to stand together in the ongoing fight for dignity. We will hold time for conversation following the film with widow and advocate, Maria Puga, film director Rick Rowley, and the co-counsels of the case myself and Roxanna Altholz. Speakers will help ground us in shared values and commitment to action.
We hope you will join us for one of our screenings. Spend a few hours with us to bear witness, to honor a life, and to strengthen our resolve for a future rooted in accountability and care.
With gratitude and determination,
Andrea Guerrero
Executive Director, Alliance San Diego
