National Veterans and Military Families Month
Men’s Health Awareness Month– In this 3 minutes video published by the Youtube channel Black Men’s Health Project from John Hopkins University, we learn from Dr. Thomas LaVeist of George Washington University that stress and racism are factors that contribute to the state of Black men’s health.
National Diabetes Month– According to this 2024 study, “experiences of discrimination are common among African Americans and compound diabetes-related stress, exacerbating poor health outcomes.”
National Veterans and Military Families Month– During the month of November, let’s take time to “Remembering Black Veterans Targeted for Racial Violence in the U.S.” Additionally, it’s important to note that Black Americans are much more likely to serve the nation in both civilian and military roles. While 89% of respondents in this study reported that joining the military was a good decision, 56% had considered “racial/ethnic discrimination” in their decision-making process, and 53% had “concerns about safety regarding base/ installation preferences due to [their] (or [their] family member’s) racial/ethnic identity.
