Silence is NOT an Option

November 2025

National Homeless Youth Awareness Month & Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week: Chapin Hall, an independent, policy research center, found, in their 2021 study that the risks of homelessness and housing instability are not equally shared among young people: Black and Hispanic youth are at greatest risk as compared to their white counterparts. You can learn more about this study by watching this video on Black youth experiencing homelessness in Cook County, Illinois.

Transgender Awareness Week and Transgender Day of Remembrance: Transgender Awareness Week is from November 13-19, 2025. This week, we celebrate transgender and gender non-conforming individuals while raising awareness about the prejudice, discrimination, and violence they face. Black transgender individuals face a disproportionately high unemployment rate, often twice as high as the overall transgender population and four times higher than the general population, according to The National LGBTQ Task Force.

Veterans Awareness Month: In their May 2024 report, the Congressional Budget Office found that “On average, Black veterans had less earnings and lower rates of marriage and homeownership than White veterans did….Among men whose demographic characteristics were similar, Black veterans earned about 20 percent less than White veterans did, on average.” You can learn more about the experiences of Black Veterans by listening to the podcasts made available on this website.
