Hello Everyone,
As you may or may not know, Larissa Dorman has taken a full-time position with the UC-AFT, so I have taken over her role in organizing the Adjunct Issues Committee meetings. For those who don’t know me, my name is Ian Duckles, and I am an adjunct professor of philosophy and religious studies. I would like to invite you all to the first meeting of the Committee this semester on Friday, September 26 from 1:30-3:30 in the AFT Guild office located at 3737 Camino Del Rio South, Suite 410, San Diego, CA 92108. The tentative agenda for the meeting is as follows:
- Jim Mahler will speak about the actions the union has taken lately on behalf of adjuncts and part-timers.
- I will speak about a plan currently being formulated by the CFT to (a) secure funding for the categorical line items for Pay Equity and Office hours and (b) to secure funding for the conversion of existing temporary faculty to full-time permanent status.
- A general discussion of any concerns or issues folks might have.
- A discussion of specific goals we might want to pursue as well as actions we might want to take in order to achieve those goals.
I hope all of you can make the meeting, and I would encourage you to try and recruit other people to come as well. We have strength in numbers, and the more of us we can get involved, the more power we will have.
In Solidarity,
Ian Duckles
PS. Please let me know via email if you can make it. Just reply to me, please don’t hit reply all.
