Dear GCCCD AFT Guild Faculty Members,
I am pleased to report that 362 ballots were submitted out of 815 eligible voters (44%) with 98.90% (358) voting in favor of our settlement, and 1.10% (4) voting against ratification.
The details of the agreement are reprinted below for your reference.
I truly thank all of you for your steadfast support of your Union and I wish you and your families a wonderful holiday season and a restful winter break!
Just in time for the holidays, I am pleased to announce that we have reached a Tentative Agreement with the District on a salary settlement effective January, 2023 for all AFT Guild faculty unit members!
Due to the advocacy efforts of your AFT Guild leadership team, in addition to the good will of our Governing Board Members, Chancellor Neault, Vice-Chancellors Abushaban and Gallagher, and Associate Vice-Chancellor Leedham we were able to reach an agreement with the District which will provide a fair compensation increase to our members, while at the same time continuing to narrow the pay parity discrepancy between our adjunct and tenured/tenure-track faculty. The details of our settlement are as follows:
On-Going Salary Increase, Effective January 1, 2023
1. 5.50% increase to all adjunct/overload salary schedules.
2. 4.62% increase to all tenured/tenure-track faculty salary schedules.
These new rates will be included in the February 2023 pay warrants in addition to a retroactive payment for the month of January 2023. See the new salary schedules attached.
**After the applications of the above salary increases, our adjunct faculty salary schedule will be 95.5% on a pro-rata basis of the equivalent steps on the tenured/tenure-track salary schedule.**
One-Time Salary Payment
1. For all current adjunct/overload faculty members, a one-time, off-schedule payment equivalent to 5.50% of total earnings for the period July 1st, 2022 through December 31, 2022.
2. For all current tenured/tenure track faculty members, a one-time, off-schedule payment equivalent to 4.62% of total earnings for the period July 1st, 2022 through December 31, 2022
This one-time payment will also be included in the February 2023 pay warrants. Bargaining unit members who were terminated for cause, retired, or voluntarily resigned prior to January 1, 2022, shall not be eligible for this one-time payment.
We are grateful that our AFT Guild leadership team was able to successfully collaborate with the District to ensure that our members received a fair salary increase. In addition, we are continuing to work with the District on an additional “salary equity” enhancement to the salary schedules that we hope to have in place early in the Spring semester.
It is because of the support from all of our members that we were able to achieve this settlement. Unlike other workers who we see having to continue to go on strike to settle their contracts, we were able to reach a peaceful agreement without any type of strife or threat of job actions. These types of agreements are not reached by chance, they only happen by virtue of our continued strong Union presence and the good labor relations we enjoy with the District’s leadership team.
Please know that we will continue to commit our time, knowledge, and experience to improve our wages and maintain our access to affordable health care and respectable working conditions. I have no doubt we will continue to be successful with your continued support. If you are a newer employee or have not yet had a chance to join your union, you can do so by clicking here and completing the online membership form.
Please keep an eye out on your inbox for electronic ratification ballots which will be arriving next week from “Election Buddy.” I am pleased that we were able to provide these increases to all of you and I look forward to our continued mutual success.
In Solidarity,
Jim
