A message from Ian Duckles, AFT Adjunct Faculty Representative:
Hello all,
The National Adjunct Action Day is next week, Wednesday, February 25!! We have a number of great activities planned, so we hope to see you out there. The main events will be a series of rallies at several campuses:

City College @ noon in Gorton Quad
Mesa College @ noon outside the LRC
Grossmont College @2:00 outside the LRC

Each rally will feature a line-up of speakers talking about adjunct issues and the challenges that adjuncts confront. Of particular note, Joe Berry will be speaking at the City and Grossmont rallies. Joe Berry is a long time adjunct activist, and you can read about his work here: We would love to see you and your students at any one of these rallies. We are trying to draw media attention to our cause, so the more people we can get at these rallies, the more successful our efforts will be. Take your classes, offer students extra credit, anything we can do to ensure a big turnout!

In addition to the rallies we will also be tabling at these three sites from Monday 2/23 through Wednesday 2/25. Look for us outside the AH Building in City, outside the Cafeteria at Mesa and outside the student center at Grossmont. Here you can find information about the event as well as send a letter to Governor Jerry Brown asking him to devote more money to adjunct issues. We will have stamps, envelopes and sample letters on hand.

In anticipation of the rallies we will be holding a sign making party on Sunday, February 22 from 11:00 to 3:00 at the AFT office, 3737 Camino del Rio South, Suite 410 (in United Labor Center Building) San Diego, CA 92108. We will have pizza and sodas and all the supplies necessary to paint some signs. If you plan on coming by for all or part of the day, please email me so I can get a count for food.

By next week you should find a Sticker in your mailbox with extras in the mailroom. There are scarlet A’s for the adjuncts to wear and “Adjunct Ally” stickers for non-adjuncts who are supportive of our cause. We also have stickers that say, “I was taught by an Adjunct” for you to give to your students. If you are an adjunct and would like to distribute these to your students, send me an email with how many you need and where to get them to you and we will make sure you have enough.

Finally, if you can’t make it to one of our rallies, there are a number of other events across San Diego County:
• Palomar College will have a teach-in/rally @ noon
• Southwestern will have a rally at 12:30 on the Mayan Theatre Patio.
• UCSD will have a student walkout @ 11:30, a noon rally at Geisel, and a Teach-In/Roundtable discussion @ 12:30 in the Yosemite Room.

We hope to see you there!
In Solidarity,
Ian Duckles
