Guild Extends Board Election Win Streak to 22-0

Dear Colleagues,
I am pleased to report that we won all of our targeted races of this election cycle!
For the Board of Trustee races, our results are:
GCCCD Seat #1, Edwin Hiel52.19% (first place in a field of three)
GCCCD Seat #2, Debbie Justeson55.83%
Southwestern College Seat #4, Norma Hernandez53.66%
Southwestern College Seat #5, Tim Nader36.44% (first place in a field of four)
In addition, the following Board seats were won without any opposition:
SDCCD Seat A, Maria Senour
SDCCD Seat C, Rich Grosch
SDCCD Seat E, Peter Zschiesche
GCCCD Seat #5, Greg Barr
And Statewide, we won:
Jerry Brown for Governor, 54% (first place in a field of six)
Proposition 25, The Majority Vote Budget Act, 55%voted YES
These results are especially impressive when you consider the very low voter turnout which usually works against our supported candidates and ballot measures.  (As a comparison, four years ago, there were approximately 95,000 votes cast in the GCCCD Board elections, this time, only 80,000 votes were cast, despite the number of registered voters having increased.)
Many thanks to all of you who phone banked, walked precincts, put up yard signs, contributed to our COPE, and passed on our recommendations to your families and friends!  We couldn’t have done it without all of your help!
With the passage of Proposition 25, the election of Jerry Brown as Governor, and all of our local Board victories, public education will be in good hands in the years to come.
Thanks again to all of you who made these victories possible!
In Unity,
