Dear AFT Guild Faculty Members,
We’re excited to offer Creating Equitable Learning Environments, a professional development opportunity for Spring 2026.
This hybrid course (in person and online) is designed for educators who are seeking a holistic approach to developing and implementing a variety of equitable practices from small daily interactions to larger assignment re-envisioning. You will explore current conversations connected to equity in higher education, including universal design for learning (UDL), inclusive teaching, social-emotional learning, alternative assessment practices, culturally responsive pedagogy, and trauma informed pedagogy. After exploring student data from your school sites, you will consider the intersections of each of these areas in creating equitable learning environments that are shaped by your individual teaching philosophy, distinct subject area goals, and the needs of your specific student populations.
- This hybrid class (online and in person) will meet on Tuesdays, 4:30 – 6:00 pm, Mesa College (room TBD)
- You can take this class as a UCSD Extended Studies class or use it as an independent Flex project
- If you would like 4 quarter graduate credits, you will enroll in UCSD Extended Studies – for $220
- AFT will reimburse cost of credits upon successful completion of the class
- If you would like to take this for your own pedagogical development, you can use this as an independent flex project!
