The ‘enhanced benefit” legislation that was passed several years ago is now expiring. CalSTRS will be making changes to several retirement benefits effective January 1, 2011. Affected benefits include:
· Longevity Bonus
· Defined Benefit Support Program
· Partial Lump Sum payments

Also, please note that for both contract and adjunct faculty who retire under CalSTRS, your unused sick leave hours get converted to CalSTRS service credit and this will continue to be the case. (Does not apply to sick leave earned during a contract overload teaching assignment, that sick leave is lost upon retirement.) I had erroneously earlier reported that CalSTRS adjunct faculty lost their sick leave hours as well. Thanks to Judy Quinton for pointing out my error!
