Subject: AFT Summary of CARES Act–$ 2 Trillion Stimulus Relief Package
Dear AFT leader,
Today, the House of Representatives passed S. 3548, the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, a $2 trillion bipartisan agreement providing funding to address the current public health emergency, and support local communities, health care and education systems. The Senate passed this legislation earlier this week, and President Trump is expected to sign it shortly.
Attached please find:
- A summary of key provisions of the CARES Act
- State-specific allocations of the $150 billion fund (more state-specific allocations will be available in coming days and weeks), and
- A summary of the unemployment insurance provisions in CARES.
Also linked here are our most recent press statements:
It is important to recognize that the CARES Act is for emergency mitigation at the current stage in this crisis. We, along with congressional allies will continue to fight for the necessary funding, supports and policies to help with recovery and restoration of society.
In Unity,
Randi
