Dear SDCCD Faculty Colleagues,
I hope this message finds you still enjoying the last days of your summer!
I’m writing to let you know about some new events and workshops your union has planned for you during Flex Week.
For starters, we will be holding our all-faculty luncheon and meeting on Tuesday, August 16th, from 12:30-2:00 at Miramar College in room J224/225 (on the second floor, just east of the Aquatics Center, Activity #64115). All faculty (contract and adjunct) are invited to attend. Come and have a great lunch, in addition to hearing the latest news regarding upcoming negotiations, local union activities, the District and State budget situation, and how it will affect us in the future. This session will repeat at ECC on September 1st at 12:00.
Immediately following the lunch meeting, we will be holding a panel discussion from 2:00-3:30 in the same location with your AFT site reps from each college regarding specific collective bargaining agreement (CBA) concerns or questions you might have (Activity #64116). We will also be discussing specific provisions of the CBA and benefits that you may not be readily familiar with. This session will repeat at Mesa College on Wednesday, August 16th from 10:30-12:00 in room G-109 (Activity #64189), at City College on Wednesday, August 16th from 1:00-2:30 in room R-110 (Activity #64166), and at ECC on Thursday, September 1st at 10:15.
We will also be hosting a dinner meeting specifically for our adjunct faculty (Activity #64168). As with the lunch meeting, all adjunct faculty from throughout the District are invited to attend. This semester, it will be held at City College in the main dining room on Thursday, August 18th, from 6:00-8:00pm.
In addition to these events, we will be holding a panel presentation on Effective Use of Classroom Technologies at City College on Thursday, August 18th from 4:30-6:00 in room R-110 (Activity #64167). This session will repeat on August 31st at 3:30 at ECC.
We will also be sponsoring an Estate Planning Workshop at Mesa College on Wednesday, August 17th from 9:00-10:30 in room G-109 (Activity #64179). This session will repeat on September 2nd at 9:00 at ECC.
All faculty are encouraged to attend all workshops at any college.
Please see the attached flyer and online Flex registration calendar http://sdccd.edu/faculty/facwebsrv.shtml for more information on each of these presentations. (College faculty wanting credit for attending the CE events, and vice-versa, will have to submit the activity as an independent project as the two flex systems are not linked.)
We hope you will find all of the above activities worthwhile and informative.
I look forward to seeing all of you during the upcoming week!
In Unity,
Jim Mahler, President
