Monday Morning Briefings…
1) We realize the time change may be slowing you down a bit today, but your AFT Activism is still needed regarding the State Budget situation. Please, again, call all five legislators listed below. Simply say: “Please support the governor’s proposal to put the tax extension measure on the June ballot. Californians should have the opportunity to vote on this.” Phone numbers are listed at the bottom of this message.
2) Our new Resource Allocation Formula for the period July 1, 2011 through June 30, 2014 was ratified by a vote of 92.1% (480) YES, to 7.9% (41) NO. The Board of Trustees also ratified this agreement at its Board meeting last Thursday. Many thanks to those of you who took the time to cast your vote!
3) The 14 Democratic Senators from Wisconsin who were in exile have returned to the capitol after the Republican legislature and Governor rammed through a special bill stripping collective bargaining rights from public employees last Friday. Special thanks are in order for 30 of our members who offered a room in their home to these senators! We are still exploring ways in which the Guild can provide meaningful support to these courageous senators, who made great personal sacrifices on behalf of our brothers and sisters in Wisconsin. If you wish to make a personal donation, the AFL-CIO is accepting donations online through PayPal or any major credit card. Please go to http://wisaflcio.org for the link.
Checks can be made payable to the Wisconsin State AFL-CIO Defense Fund, 6333 W. Blue Mound Rd., Milwaukee, WI 53213 (Please indicate the purpose, e.g. “Capitol protests” or”Madison rally”, on your check.) To read more on this story, click here.
