2) March 4th Day of Action/March 5th “March for California’s Future” Kickoff Endorsed at last week’s Union Meeting.
At last week’s Union Meeting members voted to support a “teach-out” at each site in support of the student led March 4th day of action. Also, about 30 members signed up to travel to Los Angeles and Bakersfield on March 5th for the kick-off of the CFT-led “March for California’s Future.”

AFT Guild Local 1931 Political Action VP Jim Miller will be one of the marchers trekking the entire 400 mile distance from Bakersfield to Sacramento over the course of about six weeks, ending with a major rally at the Capitol. The purpose of the march is to convey three main ideas to the media and the public:

  • Restore the promise of public education;
  • Rebuild a government and economy that works for all Californians;

  • Enact a fair tax system to fund California’s future.

Stay tuned for more details on how you can participate in these events.
