Adjunct Faculty “Hold Harmless” POA Rights Extended through Fall 2021 (05/25/2021)

To: Grossmont Faculty <GrossmontFaculty@gcccd.edu>, Cuyamaca Faculty <CuyamacaFaculty@gcccd.edu>

Dear GCCCD Adjunct Faculty and Department/Program Chairs,

I’m pleased to report that we have reached agreement with the District on extending the temporary contract language we negotiated last year regarding maintenance of POA status throughout the pandemic.  Specifically, what this means is:

1) Adjunct faculty who were not given assignments or had their assignments reduced for reasons related to the COVID-19 pandemic and related budgetary challenges for the Fall 2021 semester will retain all POA rights, at their previous LED level, through December 31, 2021.

2) Adjunct faculty who decline all offered assignments will retain their right to their past level of LED/hours through December 31, 2021, provided the declination was approved by their appropriate Dean or hiring manager.

3) Adjunct faculty who voluntarily decline all offered assignments within a discipline, without approval of the appropriate Dean or hiring manager, shall lose all POA rights within that discipline as has been the current practice.

The above terms and conditions are temporary, and will expire December 31, 2021, at which time we will revert to the current contract language.

I am happy that we were able to provide this “hold harmless” extension to our adjunct faculty to help get them through what we hope is the end of this pandemic.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions regarding the foregoing.

In Solidarity,
Jim
