Dear AFT Guild Members:
The 72nd Annual Convention of the California Federation of Teachers will be held at The Manhattan Beach Marriott commencing Friday, March 21st, 2014 at 10:00 AM and continuing through Sunday, March 23rd, 2014 until 1:00 PM.
All AFT Guild members in good standing are eligible to be nominated to serve as a delegate to the convention. To be nominated, you will need to solicit the signatures of ten (10) other AFT Guild members in good standing. A nominating petition is attached. It must be completed and mailed or faxed (619-640-1154) to the AFT Guild office and received no later than 4:00pm, Wednesday, March 5th, 2014.
Delegates will be responsible for making their own hotel reservations and will be reimbursed for two nights at the CFT conference rate. Hotels sell out fast, so book early to make sure you get a room. Here are several options:
1) Manhattan Beach Marriott 1400 Parkview Ave. Most likely already sold out, but give it a try at 800-228-9290 or following the reservation link at cft.org/governance/convention. Be sure to say you are a delegate to the California Federation of Teachers Convention to get the convention room rate of $110/night.
2) TownePlace Suites, located .8 miles from the Manhattan Beach Marriott. The address is 14400 Aviation Blvd. Hawthorne, CA 90250.
Room rate is $109 per night on Friday & Saturday. To book call (800) 257-3000 or (310) 725-9696. Identify yourself as a participant in the “California Federation of Teachers Annual Meeting/Convention“. Please note the deadline for this rate is March 3rd! Also note, this is nota full service hotel and room service is not available. Parking is free.
3) Renaissance Los Angeles Airport Hotel located 4.2 miles from the Manhattan Beach Marriott. Address is 9620 Airport Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90045.
Room rate is $109 per night on Friday & Saturday. To book call (800) 468-3571 or (310) 337-2800. Identify yourself as a participant in the “California Federation of Teachers Overflow Room Block“. Please note the deadline for this rate is March 3rd. This is a full service hotel. Parking is $25 for self-parking, $32 for valet with in/out privileges.
4) Any other hotel you can find that is close by. We will reimburse up to $110/night + any applicable taxes.
