Hello Colleagues,
I am writing this missive in the hopes that you can support my run for Trustee of Sweetwater Union High School District Area 2. I know many of you through my work as a Professor of English at Miramar College. What you probably don’t know is that I’ve been an active member of the community; often working for social justice issues such as education and immigrant rights.
Some of you also know that I grew up in the South Bay. My family has lived in the same neighborhood for the past 30 years.  Interestingly, two years ago, my wife and I bought a home in this same neighborhood. My daughters attend the same elementary school that I once did. They will also attend the district I attended through high school, Sweetwater Union High School District. My high school district has faced numerous issues ranging from indicted board members to ongoing labor strife. For this reason, I decided to get involved and was encouraged by community leaders to run for the board. I have filed and proceeded to get the endorsement of AFT, the Sweetwater teacher’s union (SEA) and the Democratic Party.
I hope that you can help my candidacy. Though you may not live in my district, I believe you see me as a man of integrity that has a passion for education. I have worked in the SDCCD for ten years and before that, I was a public school teacher. I believe that you can find it in yourself to help out our campaign. My opponent was removed from her seat earlier in the year after pleading guilty to misdemeanor charges of accepting gifts above the state limit and is now serving three years’ probation, paid a $4,589 fine, and was ordered to perform 40 hours of community service.  Incredibly, she is now seeking re-election.
I believe that you can help me restore integrity, honesty and transparency to the Sweetwater Union High School Board. I know that whatever decisions I make will be guided by a desire to help all of the students in our district.
For that reason, I’m asking that you donate to our campaign. Please visit our donations page on the web. The address is: adrianforsweetwater.com
Thank you,
Adrian Arancibia, Ph.D.
