Adjunct Faculty Unemployment Benefits/Emergency Assistance

Dear Adjunct Faculty Members,

As the spring semester comes to an end, you should be aware that you are eligible to apply for unemployment benefits, even if you have already been given an assignment for the fall (or summer).  To receive the maximum benefit, applications should be submitted immediately following the completion of your last class session or assignment for this semester.  You may also be eligible to receive a limited amount of unemployment benefits if you are teaching only one class during the summer.

Please visit the Guild’s website, aftguild.org, for important information regarding applying for unemployment benefits and/or partcipating in our Labor Participation assistance program.  Go to www.aftguild.org, click on Adjunct Issues, and then under the General Information section select Unemployment BenefitsEDD Online Application Assistance, or Emergency Assistance.
If you have received benefits within the past year, you will still have an open claim and will not need to start a new one.  If you need to, you can re-submit for a new claim online: https://eapply4ui.edd.ca.gov/.  Once your claim has been approved or restarted, you can certify for your continued benefits online.  For more information on this, visit http://www.edd.ca.gov/Unemployment/EDD_Web-Cert.htm.
Note if you are submitting a new claim that the EDD has completely changed their online application form.  Consequently, we have updated our EDD Online Application Assistance answer sheet to keep you up to date.  Please let me know if there are errors or omissions we need to correct on this document.
Wishing you a stress-free end of the semester and a well deserved summer break!

In Unity,

Jim Mahler, President
