Subject: Adjunct Fire Technology among injured San Diego Firefighters
Date: October 2, 2024 at 11:35:09 AM PDT
Good Morning,
It has come to our attention one of our beloved long-term adjunct instructors Battalion Chief Aide Barbat was seriously injured while enroute to North Carolina as part the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Urban Search & Rescue California Task Force 8.
We ask for thoughts and prayers for Chief Barbat, his family and San Diego Fire-Rescue and two other of his colleagues who were injured in the vehicle accident. The trio was traveling as part of a team that included firefighters from several agencies, emergency-room doctors, a structural engineer and a duty mechanic. They left Friday from San Diego to support rescue and relief efforts to assist victims of Hurricane Helene.
There were 18 vehicles that deployed with the team, which had planned to do water-rescue work and provide other assistance in Charlotte, N.C.
Firefighter Aid, a collaborative effort between San Diego Firefighter’s Local 145 and the San Diego Firefighter Relief Association, has set up an account to support the three injured firefighters that has raised more than $40,000. Funds donated will be distributed to the families. If you are interested, please see the link to donate below.
