Extension of POA COVID-Related Hold Harmless Contractual Provisions (04/23/2021)

Dear SDCCD Adjunct Faculty and Department/Program Chairs,

I’m pleased to report that we have reached agreement with the District on extending the temporary contract language we negotiated last year regarding maintenance of POA status throughout the pandemic.  Specifically, what this means is:

1) Adjunct faculty who were not given assignments or had their assignments reduced for reasons related to the COVID-19 pandemic and related budgetary challenges during the fall 2020, spring 2021, fall 2021, and/or the spring 2022 semesters will retain their accumulated FTEF/hours through December 31, 2022.

2) Adjunct faculty who decline all offered assignments will retain their accumulated FTEF/hours through December 31, 2022, provided the declination was approved by the appropriate Dean.

3) Adjunct faculty who voluntarily decline all offered assignments within a discipline, without approval of the appropriate Dean, shall lose all priority of assignment rights and accumulated FTEF/hours within that discipline as has been the current practice.

The above terms and conditions are temporary, and will expire December 31, 2022, at which time we will revert to the current contract language.

I am happy that we were able to provide this “hold harmless” extension to our adjunct faculty to help get them through this pandemic.
Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions regarding the foregoing.

In Solidarity,
Jim
