Martin Luther King Day and Obama's Inauguration

In 1994, to further commemorate a man who lived his life in service to others, Congress transformed the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday into a national day of community service. This year, the Obama Presidential Inaugural Committee is encouraging everyone to participate in community service activities from Saturday, Jan. 17, through Monday, Jan. 19. To honor Dr. King’s legacy, the president-elect and vice president-elect and their families, like Americans in communities all across the country, will participate in activities dedicated to serving others.

To that end, in conjunction with the San Diego and Imperial Counties Labor Council, we will be sponsoring a neighborhood clean-up event from 10am-12pm on Monday, January 19th in City Heights meeting at the Labor Council office located at 4265 Fairmount Ave. (see the imbedded message for details).

Also, on the next day, Tuesday, January 20th at 8:00am we will be having a breakfast in celebration of the Presidential inauguration.  The breakfast will be held at the UFCW hall, 2001 Camino del Rio South.  Plenty of food and TV's will be provided!
I hope you can all take time out of your schedules to participate in one or both of these events.
