This is to share with you that the American Federation of Teachers Guild, Local 1931 won the right to be the sole and exclusive representative in bargaining for non-academic and non-classified district employees who are not represented by SEIU and are not in police-related positions. Employees in these positions voted by an 87% margin to be represented by the AFT Guild in an election that was overseen by the California Mediation and Conciliation Service. This representation will begin on July 1, 2008.

The District and the AFT Guild will begin the process of developing a collective bargaining agreement, which will define the terms and conditions of employment for student, temporary, substitute, short-term, and other non-classified non-academic district employees. It is anticipated that dues will be deducted from member’s checks beginning on the August 10, 2008 paychecks, in the amount of $1.00 per month.

The District and the AFT Guild look forward to a productive and constructive relationship as we work out the details of representation and negotiations on behalf of this large group of hourly employees.
