Adjunct Faculty Unemployment Benefits/Emergency Assistance

Dear Adjunct Faculty Members, As the spring semester comes to an end, you should be aware that you are eligible to apply for unemployment benefits, even if you have already been given an assignment for the fall (or summer).  To receive the maximum benefit, applications should be submitted immediately following the completion of your last class session or assignment for this semester.  You may also be eligible to receive a limited amount of unemployment benefits if you are teaching only one class during the summer. State Budget Update-Senate Ed.Committee Acts

Faculty Colleagues, We have excellent news to report from the State Senate.  The Senate Budget Subcommittee on Education Finance chaired by Senator Marty Block finalized their higher education budget yesterday.  Thanks to higher revenue projections from the Legislative Analyst’s Office above what the Governor had based his May revise proposal on, the Senate is proposing increases in several key areas: 1) A doubling of the COLA proposed by the Governor, up from 0.85% to 1.70%.  Still not a windfall, but definitely an improvement. 2) $25 million to hire additional full-time faculty.  That equates to approximately 715 new full-time faculty hires

Wednesday, May 14, 2014 7:06 AM Dear AFT Guild Member: The 83rd Biennial Convention of the American Federation of Teachers will be held at the Los Angeles Convention Center, commencing Friday, July 11th, continuing through Monday, July 14th, 2014. All AFT Guild members in good standing are eligible to be nominated as a delegate to the convention.  To be nominated, you will need to solicit the signatures of ten (10) other AFT members.  A nominating petition is attached.  It must be completed and mailed or faxed (619-640-1154) to the AFT office no later than 12:00 noon, Thursday, June 5th, 2014.

SATURDAY: Help Us Stamp Out Hunger with the NALC Food Drive!

Dear Colleagues, Our national union, the American Federation of Teachers, is working closely with our sister union—the National Association of Letter Carriers—to support the 22nd annual Letter Carriers’ Food Drive. In the week leading up to SATURDAY, MAY 10 your Letter Carrier will add a specially branded brown paper bag to your regular mail delivery. On May 10 they ask you to fill that bag with non-perishable food items, leave it outside your door or by your mailbox and your Letter Carrier will pick up the bag and deliver Feeding America San Diego which is our local participating food bank.
