AFT Student Internship opportunities for Fall 2015

American Federation of Teachers internship positions available for FALL 2015!

Interested in learning about workers rights, labor and social justice? Would you like to help your fellow students and community members learn more about the struggle for economic justice and dignity in the workplace? Want to do activist work with AFT, other unions, and community groups? Maybe an AFT internship is right for you.

You must be a student in the San Diego or Grossmont-Cuyamaca Community College Districts and be willing to meet and work at any campus, the AFT office, and other sites in the city. We are looking for interns willing to do two semesters.

You must be able to attend regular Monday afternoon 3:00 PM meetings. Your schedule will be worked out based on your availability but you must be available for 5 hours a week counting the meetings. There will occasionally be work on weekends as well.

Students need to be articulate, detail-oriented and willing to do class presentations, public speaking and other kinds of activism. Other key qualities of a successful applicant include punctuality, responsibility, self-motivation, compassion, respect for difference, the ability to work collectively with others, and a demonstrated commitment to the progressive ideals that AFT stands for with regard to economic and social justice.

FALL INTERNS: Students MUST take Labor Studies 108: Labor and Politics on Tuesdays at 6:55-10:00 at City College. All fees and books will be reimbursed by AFT Local 1931 upon successful completion of the course.

Candidates are required to have reliable transportation.
Stipend: $1,000/semester.
Interview Date: Friday, May 8th at 3:30 in the AFT office in Mission Valley.
