Commemorate 100 years of struggle for free speech!

Brothers and sisters,
http://unionyes.org/files/images/free%20speech%20final-logo.jpgThis year, we commemorate the 100-year anniversary of a city ordinance that banned public speaking and assembly in the area around 5th and E Streets in downtown San Diego and the subsequent battle that followed. During the course of this struggle, many were arrested, beaten and even killed for asserting their rights to simply stand on a soap box and speak.
The 100-year anniversary of the San Diego Free Speech Fight is a celebration of the legacy of local labor and civil rights activism and a reminder that if we are not vigilant in the protection of our rights, we can certainly lose them.

Please join us as we commemorate the struggle for free speech in San Diego at the original site of the protests with music, performances, speeches, and special guests on Wednesday, February 8 at 6:00 p.m. at the Intersection of 5th and E Streets, San Diego 92101 (click to view map).

Free parking is available at Horton Plaza, just 2 blocks away, with validation in the mall. Bring a flashlight if you have one.
We hope to see you there!
