Incorrect Tax Deductions

Dear SDCCD AFT Members,

Many of you have reported very modest gains in your net pay, despite the significant salary increases we received in January.  You may have been told by payroll that your salary increase pushed you into a higher tax bracket which resulted in higher taxes being taken out of your check.  That statement is completely false.
What really happened is that the District did not load the correct tax tables into the payroll system for 2015.  When the new (correct) tax tables were loaded for 2016, this resulted in significantly more taxes being withheld from your paycheck, resulting in less net pay to you.
If you want to see an increase in your net pay, I would advise that you consult your tax advisor about changing your withholding allowances.  If you make no changes, this will all work out when you file your 2016 tax returns next year.
Please let me know if you have any questions or need any additional information.
In Unity,
Jim
