Subject: Will You Help us Reach $500,000 for Katrina's Victims?
Dear Working Families e-Activist,
Finally, aid is beginning to reach the devastated working
families of the Gulf Coast. But their needs are so massive and
long-lasting our help is as necessary now as it was last week.
People evacuated to temporary shelters need food, clothing and
water--and somewhere to go next. Hundreds of thousands of
working people lost jobs, their workplaces carried away by
floodwaters. Please help rebuild their lives.
Last week you put your values to work by contributing more than
$160,000 to the Union Community Fund's special Hurricane Relief
Fund. That's a great start, but our brothers and sisters in the
Gulf Coast need far, far more help. Our goal is to bring that
total to $500,000 this week--and with your generosity, we can
raise the remaining $340,000. Please stop what you are doing
right now and make a tax-deductible contribution to the Union
Community Fund by clicking on the link below:

In the days after the hurricane, we witnessed a shameful failure
of our federal government to rescue and relieve people stranded
in inhumane conditions. Our president and those he put in charge
of national crises just didn't get it! We do--and we respond.
The Union Community Fund and the AFL-CIO are working with the
labor federations in affected states and with relief
organizations to make sure your contributions go where they are
most needed to aid working families whose lives have been turned
upside down.
Already, we're setting up Worker Centers in Houston, Pearl,
Miss., and Mobile, Ala., making computers and phones available
to help working people get information and post messages letting
family and friends know they are safe. Unions are sending off
caravans loaded with relief supplies and we're getting crucial
information to emergency responders about what they must do to
stay safe while delivering aid.

Please give. Match the scale of this human disaster with your
compassion and generosity. At this moment, your commitment, your
values are put to the test. Many organizations are asking for
your donations now--but only the Union Community Fund focuses on
the specific needs of working families. Click on the following

Then please forward this e-mail to the friends, relatives and
co-workers who also want to help working families recover. Urge
them to give generously.
Thank you for helping the working families of the Gulf Coast.
In solidarity,
John J. Sweeney

P.S. The AFL-CIO also is recruiting 1,000 volunteers to work at
relief centers. If you are able to endure difficult conditions
and are willing to volunteer, please e-mail us at:

The Union Community Fund--labor's charity for working families
and communities in distress--is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) public
charity. Donations to the Union Community Fund are
tax-deductible to the extent provided by law.
