Due to errors which were discovered in retirement earnings reporting to both PERS and STRS, the District is changing the date of the annual bonus payments from the November 30th pay date to the December pay date (December 14th this year) for all contract employees.

This will result in contract employees receiving their bonus two weeks later than last year, but will ensure these earnings are correctly reported to PERS and STRS for retirement purposes.  The pay date for adjunct/overload faculty will remain unchanged as February 10th.

Subject: Change in Date for Annual Off-Schedule Payment

 

As you know, this past year we agreed to off schedule salary payments for contract faculty, administrators and staff instead of salary payments retroactive to July 1. This past year the payment was made in the paycheck for November 30.

 

In order to comply with retirement regulations and to ensure that contract employees receive proper retirement credit, the off-schedule payments to unit members for the period July 1 through December 31 needs to change to a December rather than a November pay date.  Because the December pay date is “early” each year it is approximately a two week delay beyond the 2006 payment.  The payment date for December 2007 will be December 14.  The following is language we propose for a side letter to memorialize this change: Cheryl Witt will be following up with you to complete a side letter regarding this change.

 

 

Effective 2007 and each year thereafter, the off-schedule calculation for contract employees will be based on the November salary schedule monthly base and will be paid on the December pay date.
